To ensure your paint repair blends in perfectly, you'll need to apply a clear coat over the color coat. While AutomotiveTouchup paint products are custom mixed to perfectly match the color of your 1981 Chevrolet (All Models), we use the same basecoat/clearcoat system as your factory specs. You can add a clear coat to your order on the next step. The color code will be located on a sticker named Parts Identification. The code can start with BC/CC followed by a U, or a WA with a four digit number/letter combination. We use the WA format for simplicity, your code may have a U. WA8555 is the same as U8555. I had 2 large scratches on the hood of my truck from vandalism. The scratches were down to bare metal. I used a paint pen, merlot red which is also cardinal red metallic. Once cured, I used a clearcoat pen then after drying used 1500 grit wet paper and finally rubbing compound and wax. You cannot tell where the scratches were. Perfect match.
